Other Modes of Transportation

The Other Modes of Transportation of the time period were Horse and Carriage and Wagons driven by Ox . The Roadways were one of the worst ways to travel in the 1800's. They were a slow route to take and very unrealiable. The people who traveled by Horse and Carriage had to care for their animals. Also, if the animals disobeyed then the people would have a problem because they would not be able to go where they needed to go. The residents of Easthampton and the surrounding area had many choices of transportation to ship and recieve goods and supplies. People could use the New Haven-Northampton Canal or the Boston-Maine Railroad. Whatever method they chose it would be a lot faster than wagon. If a factory owner needed to ship goods a long distance away, by road would be the last method he would have chose. The Wagon was good for short distances. People had a hard time traveling long distances because of boulders and stumps in their way.
