Connecticut River RAILROAD On and after Saturday, December 13, 1845, Trains will run between Northampton, Springfield, and Cabotville, as follows-Leave Northampton at 5:44 A.M., 2:10 P.M., and 5:12 P.M. Springfield for Cabotville and Northampton at 12:05 P.M., 3:36 P.M., and 8:40 P.M. Springfield for Cabotville at 8:00 A.M., 10:00 A.M., and 6:45 P.M. Cabotville for Springfield at 6:38 A.M., 9:00 A.M., 11:00 A.M., 3:04 P.M., 6:15 P.M., and 7:15 P.M. Cabotville for Northampton at 12:22 P.M., 3:51 P.M., and 8:55 P.M. Passenger Fares Springfield and Northampton 50 cents Springfield and Cabotville 12 1/2 cents Northampton and Cabotville 40 cents An additional charge of 5 cts. on each passenger paying in the cars. The trains will connect at Springfield with the several trains to and from Boston, Albany and New Haven. Stages will leave Northampton for Amherst, then up river towns, Burlington and Canada, on the arrival of the trains at 1:23 P.M. and 4:42 P.M. Freight will be carried over the road daily in both directions; respecting the freight tariff bill and the station Agents.

Railroads In Easthampton Easthampton had very little choice in which railroads to use in the 1800’s. The New Haven & Northampton railroad ran through town, and was able to access Westfield and Holyoke. Yet by 1872 a competitor, the Connecticut River Railroad (The Boston and Maine) decided to make a branch that went into Easthampton, allowing local merchants and travelers to have a choice. This new railroad was called the Mt. Tom Branch, and ran all the way up until the mid-20th century !
